Researchers from the Threatened Species Recovery Hub have produced several resources about the impact of cats on Australia’s native wildlife, together with tips on responsible cat ownership to minimise these impacts. The resources are available for veterinary clinics to educate pet owners, and to encourage keeping cats indoors or in contained outdoor enclosures to prevent cats from killing wildlife.

The resources include posters which can be downloaded and printed out to display in veterinary clinics, and hand-outs to make available in clinic waiting rooms. Veterinarians are also encouraged to discuss the impacts of cats on wildlife during consultations, and provide pet owners with advice on keeping their cat indoors. There are also opportunities to spread awareness about responsible cat ownership through the veterinary practice’s social media, website, blog articles and client newsletters. Read more
