With animal welfare long having been recognised as central to the role of the veterinarian, there is growing awareness that the work of veterinarians also intersects with human wellbeing and the protection of the environment. The ‘One Welfare’ concept is an integral aspect of veterinary professional ethics, and is the subject of a new book One Welfare in Practice: The Role of the Veterinarian, edited by Sydney veterinarian Dr Tanya Stephens.

 

“This is the first book dedicated to the role of the veterinarian in ‘One Welfare’, which recognises the close relationship between animal welfare, human wellbeing and the environment. Contributors bring a rich variety of approaches to One Welfare and emphasise the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and solutions,” said Dr Stephens.
